If you are booking a Bike Parcel by Train then this procedure will be a fleshy process but if it is done with following all the basic rules and regulations then Indian Railways Bike transport Services will become easy or it will become just a piece of cake. From 1853 Indian Railways offered their services. Trains are not only used to transport people but also it is used to transport goods and livestock. Earlier parcel services were simple and easy without any documentation or paperwork. Procedure for Booking Bike Parcel services By Train:


  • Pack the Parcel Properly

Way 1: You can pack the parcel yourself by applying extreme caution

With the help of packing material you can pack your bike using a durable and water resistant material. Also it is advisable to secure the package with the help of plastic sheets on the inside. And you need to double seal the parcel with the help of cello-tape. Lastly you need to mark the parcel with a permanent marker with the sender's details. So that at the time of delivery you can easily identify the parcel.


Way 2: Railway Parcel Office can pack the Parcel

If you are not able to parcel the parcel properly then you need to carry your parcel to the nearest railway station. Then go to the parcel office and there your bike transport by train will be packed with the minimal charges. You will find a parcel office either at the first platform or the last platform.

  • Book the Parcel & Collect the Railway Parcel Booking Charges Receipt

1. Procedure for Manual Booking of Parcels

Now you need to book the parcel to be transported by Indian Railways. Your parcel will be booked after the manual inspection by the authorities. For that you require following documents:

  • ID Proof

  • Ownership Document

  • Insurance Document.

In this Digital world Indian Railways are also providing Bike parcel booking services online. This online booking function is simply, quicker and easier. For the booking online parcel for that you need to visit the official Indian Railways Parcel Website.

While at the time of booking the website portal prepares the PWB/PRR in pdf form and this will be emailed to the registered email id. You can take the print out and it will be used at the time of delivery and arrival of the parcel.

  • Tracking of the Parcels

There are 2 ways through which you can track the parcel:


Online Tracking of the Parcels

To track parcels online you need to simply log on to Railway Parcel Website and fill in the required details such as:

1. PWB/ PRR number,

2. The name or code of the originating station


Manual Tracking of the Parcel

If you want to track the parcel manually then you need to quickly visit the nearest station for more information. Also we know sending parcels through railways is the cheapest way of transport, they go with many hassles and delays.

  • Collection of Railway Parcels

Once the parcel reaches the destination city station then you can easily collect parcels from the Railway Station. For that you require the Parcel Way Bill (PWB) or Parcel Railway Receipt (PRR). And also few legal documents with PWB/PRR like a receiver’s ID proof, etc.


1. Parcel/Luggage Collection

You need to collect the parcels within 18 working hours of the Railway Parcel department after unloading the parcels at notified stations.

2. Heavier Parcel (2 or 4 wheeled carriages, cars, buggy etc.)

If your parcel is heavier like bikes, cars, livestock then the time period will be limited to 6 hours after unloading.

3. If You Lost Your PWB/PRR (Parcel Railway Receipt)

If someone loses the PWB/PRR, then a basic acknowledgment statement of loss of PRR/PWB is required. This statement has other details of the parcel like contents, name, and code of the originating station and destination station. This statement will be issued by authorized Notary. Once the statement is issued then it becomes the PWB/PRR. It can be used to collect the parcel from the Railway Parcel Authorities.
